Sweet potato ice kachang
Thursday, August 31, 2006
At a desert stall, I let him order first.

Him: Auntie, ice kachang please. But i don't want red bean or any other fillings. Give me jelly instead.

Auntie: AH-TAP-CHEE you want mah?

Him: Also don't want. Thank you.

- Followed his request and gave it to him -

NOW MY TURN

Hey I don't really like red beans nor the other fillings that come with ice kachang.
So I went for complex carbohydrates, sweet potatoes.

Me: Auntie ah, I also want ice kachang and I dont want any red beans or AH-TAP-CHEE.

Auntie: Okay what do you want then?

2 words came into my mind, SWEET POTATOES. Basket, I forgot how to say that in chinese. THINK HARD RAYNER. Don't make a fool of yourself.

Me: Wo yao SUAN-TIAN-MA-LING-SHU.

Auntie: HAR?! What again?

Me: SUAN-TIAN-MA-LING-SHU

Auntie: Eh, the kind of potato you want I don't have, sweet potatoes I have.

- Then I realised, hey she knows "sweet potato" in English lah! Rayner you just blew it. -

Me: Oh yah, sweet potatoes. Thank you.

All the other aunties: Boy ah, Sweet potato is "Fan shu." Tapioca is "Shushu?"
I cant remember man.

That scenario was a joke. SUAN-TIAN-MA-LING-SHU? Sweet and sour potato? What am I thinking?!

So like I said, we all learn new things everyday don't we? I don't believe there is a Mr Know Everything.

PS: Entire conversation was Chinese translated to English.

I saw love
I saw love today.

Having dinner as usual, we were all eating except dad.

I was having beef with rice.
Brother was having lemon chicken with rice.
Mom was having sweet and sour pork with rice.
Brother ordered additional bowl of mutton curry.

Dad: Ah there's curry, bread and curry will do.
Mom: No that definitely will not do. (Think she felt it was not nutritious enough)
Dad: - continues eating bread with curry -

I saw mom reserving 3 huge pieces of pork and about half a serving of rice.
I knew she liked "belachan", cause she asked my brother if he wanted his share and he said "yes".
But she reserved half the portion of "belachan" cause she knew dad loved it as much as she does.

-After dad finishes the curry and bread-

Mom: Here take it
Dad: - took it -

I could tell mom was not full from that dinner, but she gave dad the impression that she was too full so that he could finish her food.

I saw love.
What I saw today will not be the last.

Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
But that scene, is worth a million.

Mom and dad, I truly love you both. And I love it when you two show love for one another.

* She made me think and taught me things. She is special.

Cooking courtship
Tuesday, August 29, 2006
Cooking is just like a courtship.

Take it slow and follow the flow. Not too fast, or it'll blow like grass.

Love all the ingredient like how you love everything about the person.

You may change the ingredients, but it'll never be the same again.

You may change the person, but it'll never be the same again.

Take time to prepare your ingredients.

Take time to know the person.

The ingredients is what make the dish.

The character is what make the person.

Ingredients can be found readily anywhere. But the selected ones are selected for the dish.

Character can be found similarly among people. But the one that we seek are selected to be our special one.

You are defintely going to PERSPIRE when you cook.

And you are defintely going to PERSPIRE when you ask that special someone to be "Your" special someone.

There is always a first time
Saturday, August 26, 2006
I used to be a blog hopper only, right now as of today i am a blog hopper and a blogger. Heh.

Okay, I believe there is always a first time to everything. And i absolutely believe that there is no such thing as Mr know everything! We're all learning new things everyday.

Lately, I learnt whats called straightforwardness.

STRAIGHTFORWARD:

What comes into their mind is out through their mouth.
You hate it at first, but love it in the end.
They say what they want to say.
Their sentences are shorter.
And it stings like a bee.

BEAT AROUND THE ENTIRE AMAZON:

What comes into their mind is partially out through their mouth, figure the rest out yourself.
You are patient at first, but feel like strangling them later. Cause you still don't get the message.
They may say what they want to say, all in bits and chunks. End of it all you still gotta pick up each and every one of them and compile it yourself. (Trust me, you will wish you are Jcreator.)
Their sentences are longer than the "choo choo train."
Does not sting like a bee, but turns you into a and makes you want to sting them.
